There is perhaps nothing more frightening to a 1980s sitcom father than the thought of his little girl growing into a woman. It makes sense, then, that one of the most memorable episodes of Who’s the Boss? involved single dad Tony (played by Tony Danza) going brassiere shopping for his daughter, Samantha (Alyssa Milano).
During EW’s recent Who’s the Boss? reunion, the cast members recalled the infamous season 1 episode, titled “Samantha’s Growing Up.”
“This was at a time that we could only say ‘bra’ once,” Milano said. “We could only say it once, and then we had to come up with different things.”

Judith Light, who played Tony’s employer Angela, chimed in, “They came up with the best thing ever, which was incredibly funny. He kept saying, ‘I have to buy her a foundation garment.’ And it was hilarious!”
Hilariousness aside, going through adolescence on screen was occasionally awkward for Milano.
“I’d walk down the street and get recognized,” she recalled. “People would be like, ‘That bra episode! You’re getting older, you’re growing up!’ It was so mortifying.”
