Rose McGowan is in staat van beschuldiging gesteld voor het bezit van verboden middelen. De actrice liet vorig jaar haar portemonnee liggen in het vliegtuig waarmee ze naar de Women’s March in Washington vloog. Daar bleken twee zakjes cocaïne in te zitten.
Een zogeheten grand jury in de staat Virginia besloot maandag dat McGowan terecht moet staan. Ze was niet aanwezig bij de uitspraak en zal er volgens lokale zender WTOP ook dinsdag, wanneer de datum van haar rechtszaak bekend wordt gemaakt, niet bij zijn. Op cocaïnebezit staat in de staat Virginia een maximale straf van tien jaar cel.
Advocaten van de actrice hebben gesuggereerd dat Harvey Weinstein de drugs in haar spullen heeft laten stoppen. Dat zou een wraakactie zijn geweest voor haar beschuldigingen van seksueel misbruik aan zijn adres. McGowan was één van de eerste vrouwen die naar buiten kwam met misbruikverhalen over Weinstein. Dat zette uiteindelijk de #MeToo-beweging in gang.

De reboot van de ‘Heather’ is gecanceld door Fox, eerder werd de release van de serie uitgesteld na recente schietpartijen op enkele middelbare scholen in Amerika. Deze hebben er nu toe geleid dat de serie helemaal niet meer uitgezonden wordt. Keith Cox één van de bazen van Paramount Network zegt hier het volgeende over:
“This was a very difficult decision. We had multiple meetings, and in the end, we didn’t feel comfortable right now airing the series,” Cox shared. “This is a bold move and we stand behind it.” Cox went on to explain, “This is a high school show, we’re blowing up the school, there are guns in the school, it’s a satire and there are moments of teachers having guns. It’s hitting on so many hot topics.” Because of that, the network felt it would contradict their support for the survivors of the school shootings.
“This company can’t be speaking out of both sides of its mouth, saying the youth movement is important for us and we’ve done all these wonderful things to support that and at the same time, we’re putting on a show that we’re not comfortable with,”
