Actrice Shannen Doherty is ondertussen in remissie, maar is op Instagram nog steeds heel open over de borstkanker waar ze twee jaar lang tegen vocht. Haar laatste post is er een voor Breastcancer Awareness Month. Ze staat voor de spiegel na haar eerste chemokuur en merkt dat haar haar begint uit te vallen. Het is een heel persoonlijke post geworden.
Shannen Doherty (45) kennen we van haar rollen in ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ en ‘Charmed’, maar sinds enkele jaren ook van haar strijd tegen borstkanker. De Amerikaanse actrice breekt alle taboes en postte de afgelopen twee jaar regelmatig heel eerlijke foto’s van alle behandelingen en de emotionele rollercoaster die de diagnose met zich meebracht.Naar aanleiding van Breastcancer Awareness Month deelde ze een heel intieme foto op Instagram. Op de foto zien we haar voor de badkamerspiegel staan. Ze huilt en heeft plukken haar vast.
“Deze foto is heel persoonlijk. Ik was net mijn chemokuur gestart. Ik droeg een pet met koude gel omdat ik hoopte dat ik mijn haar zo niet zou verliezen. En toch had ik plukken in mijn handen… Ik was ziek, voelde me ook zo en had even geen controle meer. Zwak, en sterk. Ik voelde me lelijk en tegelijk vanbinnen mooier dan ik me ooit had gevoeld. Ik herinner me dit moment alsof het gisteren was. Kanker komt in zoveel fases. Shock, ontkenning, aanvaarding, woede, wrok, rebellie, angst, waardering en zelfs schoonheid.”
De actrice wil met haar post alle kankerpatiënten een hart onder de riem steken. “Kanker zal er altijd zijn. Andere patiënten zullen weten dat het nooit weggaat, zelfs al pakt de chemo aan. Het zal je veranderen, in slechte, maar ook in goede zin. Het is een rollercoaster van emoties. Je hebt zoveel steun en liefde nodig. En je wil leven, leven, leven.”
De actrice kreeg ondertussen gelukkig goed nieuws van de dokters. Sinds begin dit jaar is de kanker onder controle.
Nu Alyssa en Shannen na jarenlang weer contact hebben zouden ze het veel hebben over plannen om ‘Charmed’ te rebooten op een tv-zender of via Netflix. Het tweetal zou hierover ook al hebben gepraat met Holly over hun ideën.
“While it was already announced in the earlier part of this year that The CW is delaying its planned reboot of the popular TV series “Charmed” for next year’s Fall TV season, the latest rumors claim that Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano are now talking a lot about their plan to reboot the said series.
There is no denying that “Charmed” is one of the most clamored-for series to be rebooted. After all, the original series still has a cult following to this day that continues to demand more of the Halliwell sisters Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) as the magical witch sisters who protect the innocent.
To recall, The CW announced earlier this year that it was planning to reboot the popular TV series that ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006. However, to the dismay of the fans of the original “Charmed,” the network revealed it was planning to make a prequel to the original story that would not involve any of the original cast members.
After making noise on social media, fans of the original “Charmed” succeeded in preventing the reboot from happening as The CW announced that it was delaying the reboot for Fall TV season 2018 with a new script.
As of this writing, there is still no update on The CW’s plan for the reboot of “Charmed,” especially if it will involve the original cast members or not. However, according to a source of Life & Style, Doherty and Milano now talk a lot about their own plans of reviving the series that made them a household name in the past. It remains unclear if it is in conjunction with The CW’s plan or a totally different project at all.
“Alyssa and Shannen are hoping Charmed gets a second life on network TV or Netflix. They have been talking to [co-star] Holly [Marie Combs] about reprising their roles. They’re getting a kick out of the idea of getting to play moms in their 40’s with teenage witches as daughters,” the incognito source told the publication.
It can be recalled that Doherty and Milano had a falling out during their stint on “Charmed,” and it was believed that the conflict was the reason why Doherty left the series after its third season run. However, since Doherty was diagnosed with cancer, the two have rekindled their friendship after Milano reached out to her former co-star.
Doherty announced last April that her cancer is already in remission.
With the renewed friendship between the two, fans can only hope that there will be no more stopping them from reprising their respective “Charmed” roles in a reboot.”
After announcing earlier this year that her breast cancer is in remission, Shannen Doherty has shared the importance of keeping a positive attitude amidst an ordeal and how cancer brought out a better version of herself.
It was in 2015 when it was revealed that Doherty had breast cancer. However, many fans of the former “Charmed” star felt relieved when she shared in an Instagram post last April that she was on her way to recovery as her breast cancer is already in remission.
Despite the improvement, Doherty knows that the first five years are crucial but this doesn’t stop her from keeping a positive attitude as she patiently waits.
The actress’ positivity is so apparent that it manifests in Doherty’s physical appearance. Recently, Doherty attended the benefit for the Farrah Fawcett Foundation where she rocked a short do, something that she loves most of the time, she claimed. However, more than her physical appearance, Doherty’s positivity was evident in her words when she started talking about the ordeal she went through for almost two years.
“It’s the attitude that you have. I was working out during chemo… because I just knew if I didn’t move and get my body going, that my recovery would be a lot harder… It’s just always important to believe there is a rainbow on the other side and that there are beautiful things that come out of the worst situations possible. I’ve learned so much about myself,” Doherty told Extra TV.
Doherty also went to reveal that cancer has transformed her into a better version of herself. According to the actress, she has become a kinder person since her battle with cancer and allows her new-found kindness to show. Because of this, the actress has been rewarded with new people in her life that she now cherishes.
“I’ve developed friendships that are so valuable to me,” Doherty shared.

Shannen is begonnen met de opnames van ‘Heathers’ tv serie die volgende jaar gepland staat. Dit is haar eerste project weer na haar diagnose borstkanker 2 jaar geleden.
Was back on set today. It’s been a rough two years. Fighting cancer. As an actor, people bench you. They assume you’re to weak, not able etc etc. and yet it’s something like work that invigorates and renews strength to conquer the unimaginable beast. I compared myself to a car today. That vintage Shelby that’s been in the garage too long. It’s still a great car. The best. Just needs time for the engine to warm up and it’s good to go. Performing like it’s supposed to. Er is nog niets officiële bevestigd dat er gesprekken zouden zijn voor een reboot.

Fans may despair at the idea of the supernatural TV series coming back, but we’ve got good news – Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs are all in-talks to reprise their roles.
The show, which followed three sisters with unique powers, ran for eight seasons between 1998 until 2006.
“They’re in talks for a reboot,” a source told InTouch.
“They’re hoping the show gets a second life on Netflix. They’d love to play moms with teenage witch daughters.”
While the show remains a cult favourite, it was the drama behind the scenes that’s lived on all these years later. Doherty quit at the end of the third season, after having several on-set disputes with Milano that culminated in her threatening to leave the series if her co-star wasn’t axed.
Producers ended up axing Doherty and replacing her with Rose McGowan, who remained on the show until the end.
“Now the show may get a second shot, just like their friendship,” added the source.

Holly Marie Combs renews fans hope for a possible reboot.
Earlier this year it was revealed that American network The CW was developing a prequel to the classic magical series Charmed, but it wouldn’t feature any of the original actresses. This news, which received a lukewarm response from fans, raised questions about a possible Charmed revival.
Considering that the current trend is to remake TV series – Gilmore Girls, Will & Grace and Roseanne have all either been remade or a remake is in the works – it’s not impossible to imagine that the three supernatural sisters could soon grace our screens.
These prayers may soon be answered with the recent news that Holly Marie Combs, who played Piper Halliwell, confirmed that she would sign on for a Charmed remake.
“At this point, I can almost never see myself saying no to a Charmed reunion, because it’s so important to so many people I’ve already met personally,” Holly told Philly.com.
Fans were delighted when Holly announced her interest in reprising her role as a witch during an appearance at the Wizard World 2017 in Philadelphia.
Holly added that her close relationship with her co-stars Alyssa Milano and Rose McGowan helped to strengthen the series where the trio played sisters.
“I am still friends with them,” Holly said. “It’s funny. I always say you go through these stages of life, when, you know, we acted like sisters. We got along. We agreed. Sometimes we didn’t agree. We fought. We went to weddings.
“It was definitely like a real family (and) we were sort of bonded in that way. I think that bond is strengthened by how meaningful the show has been to so many people (and how) it just goes on in its own way.”

On June 2, Rose McGowan, who played the youngest sister Paige Matthews, posted a photo of the trio with the caption: “The power of 3 always exists”.

It’s been over a decade since witchy sister show Charmed was on air, but the show’s legacy and stars remains strong. (After all, witches make the best iconic cult pop culture figures.) But fans of the original WB show will know that main cast member Shannen Doherty left the cast amid claims of behind-the-scenes drama. Part of that original drama allegedly involved co-star Alyssa Milano, and the two didn’t speak for years.
But in a new interview, Alyssa revealed that she and Shannen recently started talking again. The instigating cause: Shannen’s cancer diagnosis. The 90210 star’s breast cancer is currently in remission, but Alyssa revealed that she’s been in contact with her former on-screen sister for a while now, and even have plans to meet up in person:
“Shannen and I talk a lot on Twitter via [direct message]. And I spoke to her maybe two or three days ago, and we decided that we’re going to get together. That date has not been set yet, but yes!”
Part of this newfound reconciliation is due simply to the passage of time, of course:
“I think we’re just at ages now that what happens 15 years ago, or however long ago that was, it’s irrelevant … I think that what she has gone through, [and] motherhood in my life, I think it just changes people. I’m so happy that she’s feeling well. I prayed for her every day that she would feel well and I can’t wait to see her.”
Keep your eyes peeled for an Alyssa and Shannen selfie together… or if a gal can hope, maybe a full OG Charmed cast get-together?

We spreken over remissie als een aandoening terrein verliest en de toestand van de patiënt tijdelijk verbetert. Als alle tekens van de ziekte verdwenen zijn, gaat het om een complete remissie. Dit betekent nog altijd niet dat de ziekte volledig uitgeschakeld is.
Shannen was afgelopen maand aanwezig bij een zitting van het Amerikaanse congres. Hierin sprak ze over de nieuwe wet die het gebruik van katten en hondenvlees voor consumptie verbied.

Shannen en Holly die al vele jaren goede vrienden zijn lijken geen vrienden meer te zijn. Nadat Shannen en Holly sinds vorig jaar juni niet meer samen zijn gespot of van elkaar op social media vragen verschillende media of het tweetal ruzie heeft en nog wel vrienden zijn. Shannen zou Holly zelfs niet meer volgens op instagram en twitter. In een interview met Chelsea Handler eind vorig jaar liet Shannen wel weten enkele vrienden kwijt te zijn geraakt sinds haar strijd met kanker, specifieke namen noemde ze hierbij niet.

It’s looking like Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs are no longer friends, which is pretty surprising considering their longtime friendship (TV sisterhood is forever, y’all!).
In case you haven’t noticed, the stars haven’t posted any pictures to Instagram since June of last year when they both appeared at the Sydney Opera House for an event .While Holly shared this shot to IG at the time, fans have since taken to the Pretty Little Liars actress’ comments to post speculation about their friendship. Five months ago, one wrote:
“verbovetskaya: There hasn’t been any pics of you and @theshando recently.?? so I was wondering, did you guys fight or something??? Please,don’t! ?? I feel like my heart is going to break if that’s true? your friendship has always been like good example for me?”They have also both unfollowed each other on the social media app, and it turns out Shan even unfollowed her former BFF on Twitter (Holly still follows Shan though).
Amid her battle with breast cancer, Shannon spoke with Chelsea Handler in an October interview, spilling about how some friends bailed:
“People went, ‘Um, no, you’re just not fun anymore. You’re sick and you’re not drinking. You talk about cancer and I don’t want to hear any talk about cancer. I want to talk about me.’ It was heartbreaking. But at the same time, that’s when I go, ‘God, cancer is a godsend in a lot of ways because, boy, did it clean house in my life.”
We can only speculate who she was talking about…

Shannen Doherty heeft haar laatste chemokuur achter de rug. Dat laat de actrice, bij ons bekend van de hitseries Charmed en Beverly Hills 90210, op Instagram weten. Bij Shannen werd in 2015 borstkanker vastgesteld.
Op Instagram heeft Shannen een foto van zichzelf geplaatst waaronder ze schrijft dat ze erg moe is. Verder meldt ze dat nu het grote wachten is begonnen. “Nu ik klaar ben met chemo en de bestralingen, is het wachten begonnen. Wachten op de testuitslagen, wachten op het moment waarop ik schoon ben en wachten op mijn borstreconstructie.”
Het is niet de eerste keer dat Shannen op social media praat over haar ziekte. Ze plaatste foto’s toen ze haar haar had afgeschoren en van haar eerste bestraling. De actrice kreeg steeds veel steun van haar fans.
Shannen is vorige maand begonnen aan het tweede deel van haar kankerbehandeling, na verscheidene chemo-bandelingen is ze vorige maand ook begonnen aan bestraling om het gevecht tegen haar uitgezaaide borstkanker te kunnen winnen.

After undergoing her first radiation treatment just last week, Shannen Doherty has penned a touching message to the team seeing her through this tough time.
While bravely attending her second session, the actress uploaded a candid snap with her doctors in which she dons a smile and flashes her upturned thumbs.
“Another day of radiation,” she began, before introducing Anna and Vince, who are two members on her radiation team.
“They make a concerted effort to talk to me and show me what’s going on in this process so I don’t feel so out of control in it.
“Never be too timid to speak up and ask for what you need to get thru the process. None of this is easy but a great team can make it more pleasant,” Shannen concluded, adding the hashtags, “#cancerslayer #fightlikeagirl #warrior #communicationiskey”
Committing to her mission of being completely open and honest throughout her cancer battle, last month, on November 28, the 45-year-old posted a picture to Instagram of her in hospital, ready for her first day of radiation, captioning: “#RadiationMondaySucks.”
Beside the snap, she also shared her fear of the treatment itself.
“I look like I’m about to make a run for it, which is accurate,” she says.
“Radiation is frightening to me. Something about not being able to see the laser, see the treatment and having this machine moving around you just scares me.”
“I’m sure I’ll get used to it but right now…. I hate it.”
In March 2015, the Charmed alum revealed her diagnosis with breast cancer and, sadly, since then, the cancer has spread to her lymphatic system.
Standing by her side during this tough time has been her husband-of-five-years Kurt Iswarienko and her mum Rosa Elizabeth Doherty.
The unknown is always the scariest part,” she previously told ET.
